HI, I'M RACHELLE, FOUNDER OF TINKERLAB, AND IT'S GREAT TO MEET YOU!
As a classroom art teacher, museum educator, and author, I’ve experienced thousands of art projects with my students, docents, community, and around my own kitchen table. My studio is brimming with lessons, books, photos, and samples collected over the years. Some great, some even better! I wanted to find a way to bring the best of the best (i.e. the projects that kids really enjoy) to other parents and teachers, saving others time by cutting right to the good stuff.
In 2019, a lightbulb moment occurred: “What if we could create a dedicated space to engage in these activities, share creations, and learn from each other?”
From this spark, TinkerLab Schoolhouse was born.

What age is this for?
Schoolhouse is designed for children aged 3-8 years. Our team of experts carefully curate activities to suit this age group, balancing fun with educational value.
When does it start?

What types of activities are included?
Schoolhouse includes a variety of activities aimed at fostering creativity, curiosity, and learning, with an emphasis on open-ended making. These can range from painting and collage projects to nature exploration activities, scientific experiments, and other STEAM projects. Each activity is designed to be fun, engaging, and educational.
Are the videos meant for me to watch alone or for my child to watch themselves?
You can watch the activity videos on your own or with children. Our members do both, and it’s different for each family or classroom. The activity videos are short, so they can be paused and you can do the activity while watching, or you can easily watch ahead of time and then do the project later. Some people like to go screen-free, and the PDFs are also a valuable resource in those situations. With younger kids, I’d recommend watching the videos on your own to understand how the project could go. Some videos, especially those in TinkerLab 101, are created directly for adults with explanations about how to support creative development and engagement.
How much time does each activity typically take?
Activities are designed to be completed in about 30-60 minutes. This may vary depending on the child’s age, engagement, and interest level.
Is this for teachers or families?
Schoolhouse is for teachers, homeschoolers, and families.
Classroom teachers, Homeschoolers, & Librarians: One membership per teacher, please. TinkerLab Schoolhouse can be used in your classroom or library. It is not meant to be shared beyond this use. Please email us for permission if you want to share Schoolhouse materials (videos and PDFs) with families, in online streaming services (i.e. Zoom or library events), on TPT, or in professional development workshops.

Are materials for the activities included in Schoolhouse?
Schoolhouse includes comprehensive activity guides and printable activity sheets. Parents will receive a supply list for the upcoming activities, allowing them to prepare in advance. Please note, physical materials are not included.
What supplies will we need?
We aim to keep things simple so you’re not racing to the craft store multiple times each month. If you stock up on basics like crayons, markers, paper, watercolor paint, playdough (we’ll give you a list), and household supplies like cardboard boxes, you’ll be able to try a majority of our activities. Every now and then we’ll introduce more unique materials because they’re fun and expand children’s ideas of what’s possible. A majority of our prompts pull from the TinkerLab Basic Supply List.
I'm a parent: how does this work if I have more than one child?
Schoolhouse activities can be shared amongst a family. Further, the open-ended nature of the lessons means that children of different ages will be engaged with the prompts and activities.
Can I share a membership with other teachers or families?
One membership per family or classroom, please. If your friend would like to join, please direct them to this page. ❤️
How is this different from free activities I can find online?
Schoolhouse is more than a collection of activities. In Schoolhouse you’ll find support, expert advice, creativity tools, and resources to support your maker habit. If you’re tired of collecting random ideas from the internet that aren’t age-appropriate, require too much planning, are ad-heavy, or cost too much time to find, we simplify the curation process to bring you the best kid-friendly art activities. We only share projects kids love, and all of this happens in a wholesome ad-free space so you can feel good about time spent with us.
